Event Details
Rev. Nathan A. Russell (he/him) serves as Senior Minister of Washington Avenue Christian Church in Elyria, Ohio. Before discerning a call to ministry, Nathan built a rich career in music education, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from West Texas A&M University, followed by post-graduate work in choral conducting and music education at Michigan State University. For seven years, he taught choral music at both the high school and collegiate levels, shaping voices and inspiring students.
Nathan later graduated from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University with a Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies, where he was honored as a Walker Preaching Scholar. Ordained in 2014 by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and he was inducted into the prestigious Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College in 2016. His academic pursuits have also included summer theological study at Christ Church, Oxford University, and doctoral coursework in Curriculum Studies at Texas Christian University.
In addition to his pastoral work, Nathan remains deeply connected to the arts. He sings with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and is a gifted hymn writer, creating music that weaves theology, beauty, and congregational life together.
