We are people who have been shaped by a culture and church that has historically viewed people in binaries of “sick” and “healthy” or “well” and “unwell.” Our scriptures are full of stories of healing. What do these things mean for people whose bodies or minds are shaped by different abilities, neurodiversity, chronic illness or more? Where is the church in recognizing intrinsic value and dignity and shaping narratives around God’s action in human lives not only beyond but also within our varying physical, mental, and spiritual selves? Explore these questions and more with the School for Ministry’s Summer Intensive on Disability and Mental Health Justice with Rev. Dr. Sarah Griffith Lund.
This webinar will fulfill an ethics requirement for CCIW/ CCMR clergy.
The Rev. Dr. Sarah Griffith Lund is Minister for Disabilities and Mental Health Justice on the national staff of the United Church of Christ and is the senior pastor of First Congregational UCC of Indianapolis, IN. Sarah is the author of several books on the topic of faith and mental health: Blessed are the Crazy: Breaking the Silence About Mental Illness, Family, and Church; Blessed Union: Breaking the Silence About Mental Illness and Marriage; Blessed Youth: Breaking the Silence About Mental Illness with Children and Teens, and Blessed Youth Survival Guide.
