The Administrator & Caretaker will provide leadership for the daily operation, hospitality, maintenance, and care of the camp while cultivating a welcoming, Christ-centered environment for guests, congregations, volunteers, and community partners. This unique position combines ministry, hospitality, administration, facilities management, and care for creation.

Camp Administrator & Caretaker

Position Summary
The Camp Administrator & Caretaker seeks to cultivate a Christ-centered environment of ministry, hospitality, community, and spiritual formation for all who enter the grounds of Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center.
This individual will help foster a deep appreciation for stewardship of God’s creation while creating a welcoming and spiritually nurturing space for guests, congregations, retreats, and youth throughout the Future Living Waters Region.
This position combines hospitality, administration, facilities management, and ministry presence. The ideal candidate will possess a servant’s heart, practical leadership skills, and a passion for creating sacred spaces where lives can be transformed.
Primary Responsibilities
Hospitality & Relationship Building
Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- User groups and retreat guests
- Volunteers and donors
- Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations and clergy
- Community partners and regional ministries
Responsibilities include:
- Providing consistent communication and coordination through both individual and group outreach
- Fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and spiritually grounded atmosphere for all guests
Administration & Operations
- Oversee scheduling and coordination of camp and facility usage
- Manage financial and administrative responsibilities related to camp operations
- Coordinate the staffing, stocking, and preparation of the commercial kitchen
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and safety requirements, including:
- Annual health inspections
- Wastewater management
- Safety and operational standards
- Background check compliance
Facilities & Grounds Management
- Maintain camp buildings, grounds, and equipment through routine upkeep and basic repairs
- Coordinate with outside contractors and professionals when specialized work is required
- Help develop and implement sustainable and environmentally responsible practices for facility care
- Organize and oversee volunteer workdays and onsite improvement projects
Leadership & Supervision
- Recruit, train, supervise, and support part-time and seasonal staff
- Coordinate volunteers and project teams
- Help create a collaborative and mission-focused work environment
Required Qualifications
- Ability to obtain a Food Manager’s License
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and repair tasks
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace, including:
- Gmail
- Google Docs
- Google Sheets
- Google Drive
- Ability to successfully pass annual multi-state criminal and sex offender background checks
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
- Knowledge of Creation Care principles
- Familiarity with sustainable and environmentally responsible facility management
- Experience in nonprofit administration or camp ministry
Working Conditions
- Approximately 25–50% of work performed outdoors
- Schedule varies based on camp reservations and seasonal programming:
- Spring and Fall: primarily weekend responsibilities
- Summer: primarily weekday responsibilities
- Limited travel (0–10%) for regional staff meetings, retreats, and assemblies

- Three-bedroom residence

- Use of camp vehicle/truck for approved work-related responsibilities
