Eureka College will mark its rich history and enduring mission with its annual Founder’s Day Convocation, a time to gather, reflect, and celebrate the community that has shaped generations of leaders.

This year’s Founder’s Day address will be delivered by Matthew Cahill, J.D., a member of the Eureka College Class of 2009. While a student at Eureka College, Cahill served as a Reagan Fellow and President of the Student Senate—early signs of a lifelong commitment to leadership and public service.
Cahill was recently appointed Chief Counsel for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in Washington, D.C., effective November 9, 2025. In this role, he provides legal leadership in support of the agency’s mission to strengthen communities through safe, efficient, and accessible public transportation. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Eureka College and earned both his J.D. and M.B.A. from Northwestern University. He currently lives in rural Maryland with his wife and daughter.
Cahill’s connection to Eureka College runs deep. He is a third-generation graduate and the ninth member of his family to attend the college—part of a remarkable legacy that includes grandparents, great aunts and uncles, and a parent whose lives and relationships were shaped on Eureka’s campus. His story reflects the lasting impact of a college community that forms not only minds, but lives.
Founder’s Day is a moment to honor where Eureka College began—and to witness how that foundation continues to bear fruit through alumni who serve the common good. Following the convocation, all are invited to stay for cake and fellowship as the celebrationof Eureka College’s past, present, and future continues.
