2-Eyed Seeing: Intersections of Current Christian Theology and Traditional Knowledge
Winter Talk honors the season of winter—a time when the harvest is past and spring is still to come. It is a season for reflection, storytelling, shared meals, and deep listening. At Winter Talk, we gather as community to talk, eat, create new relationships, and then do it all again—renewing old connections and forming new ones grounded in respect and shared responsibility.
Hosted by the Center for Indigenous Ministries, Winter Talk is dedicated to continuing the work of naming, examining, and dismantling the Christian Doctrine of Discovery. This gathering brings together siblings from Canada and the United States to learn, eat, and engage in honest conversation about the Doctrine of Discovery’s lasting impact on Indigenous peoples across North America. All are welcome to this space of accountability, where Indigenous voices are central in exploring the past, understanding the present, and envisioning a more faithful future.
Winter Talk 2026 will take place Sunday, February 1 – Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a virtual option available.
The gathering will begin Sunday evening, February 1, from 6:00–8:00 pm at the Parish Church of St. Jerome (205 W King Street, Tulsa, OK 74106), an inclusive and egalitarian sacramental community rooted in the Old Catholic tradition, where Father Joshua Shawnee serves as parish priest.
Speakers and small-group conversations will take place Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, at the Helmerich Center for American Research, located at 1400 N Gilcrease Museum Rd, Tulsa, OK 74127.

Registration costs are $100 General, $60 Retired Clergy, $50 Seminary Students, and free for Indigenous participants.
