What a Church Can Do: Equipping Families for Faithful Conversations

By September 11, 2024No Comments

About the Facilitator:

Kate Ott is the author of Sex, Tech, & Faith: Christian Ethics in a Digital Age (2022), Christian Ethics for a Digital Society (2018), and Sex + Faith: Talking with Your Child from Birth to Adolescence (2013). She strives to help parents overcome fears of talking with your child about sex by combining faith values with age-appropriate sexual information. “Ott connects relevant biblical and faith stories with educational issues so that you can answer your child’s questions, discuss sexuality at each stage of childhood, and show support of sexual differences.”

Topics for Discussion:

  • Why it’s important to connect spirituality/faith with sexuality (from actual social science data behind better child outcomes, also myth-busting about sexuality education)
  • What is a robust definition of sexuality
  • Why sexuality education happens all the time and how to have a bigger impact with our message
  • How to address sexuality-related issues across the ages from a values-centered perspective
