Can a pot of tea change the world? Clergy, start your kettles

By April 15, 2024No Comments

Pull up a virtual chair because we have just the recipe for changing the world – a cup of tea + a quiet space = a life-changing opportunity.

In fact, when someone is in the middle of an abusive home situation, the last thing they need is a lecture or more noise. Offering a cup of tea and a quiet space is sometimes the best thing you can do for them.

Plus, there’s a lot more skills to hone to successfully navigate the waters of empowering someone in the middle of a domestic violence situation.

In the Christian Church in Illinois and Wisconsin, we want to state our values strongly by encouraging clergy to sign up for a special training: Un*Silencing Domestic Violence. We’ve partnered with the best! Rev. Courtney Armento teaches this class. She is a Disciples minister and has received training caring for those who have experienced domestic and intimate partner violence. Now, you get to benefit from all of her training and wisdom.

Courtney has created a class that is impactful yet gentle (no scary images or harsh language) to show you the critical skills needed to assist someone experiencing domestic violence.  This could be anyone; domestic violence does not know barriers of age, gender, or sexual orientation.

Of course, she doesn’t stop at just the cup of tea. She also gives you some pretty awesome information that you can implement right away into your context to recognize and reduce domestic violence. Who wouldn’t love that?

Even if you are thinking that this doesn’t apply to your situation, the reality is that it does. Domestic and intimate partner violence is a hidden epidemic that affects 1 in 3 women, 1 in 4 men, and 1 in 3 teens. This is shocking, and yet it’s so epidemic that it’s become commonplace. And you, being the awesome clergy that you are, can make a difference with just the cup of tea.

So, grab your teapot and enroll today.

CCIW Disciples Women have secured a special rate for our CCIW clergy. The course is usually a steal anyway at only $97 but right now you have 20% off through June 15.  Just enter the code CCIW when you register.

For those who are feeling like entering a brave space, check out Un*Silence Domestic Violence and join the ranks of those making a big impact.
