United Christian Church seeks Youth Minister

United Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Country Club Hills, IL, seeks an experienced youth minister to join our community of faith. This individual will be responsible for reaching out to, caring for, and teaching spiritual formation to children and youth ages 5-18, in our church and in the wider community. Initially the youth minister will primarily focus the outreach on middle and high school aged young people. The youth minister works in collaboration with an advisory committee and under the supervision of the senior pastor. 

The ideal candidate will be a specialist in youth ministry: a person with knowledge of how to connect with the unchurched and underserved communities of color, one who can lead youth and congregation worship services, someone who has a love and calling for youth ministry, and can relate well with youth, parents, and adult volunteers. The youth minister should possess good communication skills, the ability to think creatively, be a team player, leader and have organizational skills. This is a full-time position.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Connect with legal, mental health, and other youth leaders in the community.
  • Connect with local schools to build rapport with administrators and teachers.  
  • Learn contact procedures for accessing children and youth at the school.
  • Create outreach programs so they are an integral ministry within the congregation.
  • Work effectively with church members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Active in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) local, regional, and general church.
  • Develop effective youth programs and activities, formulating and executing a strategic plan with time sensitive goals.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of ministry experience with youth (volunteer or paid) 
  • A degree in a relevant field with an understanding of today’s culture and the ability to function and communicate the gospel within it.
  • An understanding of scripture and strong ability for exegesis.
  • Ability to relate to a variety of ages and backgrounds (ethnic, gender, socioeconomic).
  • Must be a champion of the next generation. This includes a desire to see the lives of students, young adults, and parents being changed by the gospel.
  • Responsible for monitoring and complying with the church’s Safe Conduct Policy. 
  • Ability to work with and maintain positive, healthy relationships with those inside and outside the church.
  • Must be trustworthy and able to hold in confidence personal and private matters.
