This year’s Special Offering theme for Week of Compassion provides great opportunities for churches to think about how they “Invest in Futures”–not just through giving, but also through relationships.
1 Corinthians 3:9 says “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” The word that Paul uses for co-workers–synergoi— describes what we might call “synergy:” everyone working together to create something greater than anyone could do alone.
Our congregations are made up of people who have a diversity of gifts, skills, and knowledge. Paul tells us each person has something to contribute, as all work toward the same goal. In the interest of building on that shared knowledge, this year’s resources include an all-ages activity, “Intergenerational Bingo.” This gives children, youth and adults a chance to find out more about each other–maybe even about themselves!– creating opportunities to invest in the future of the community. It can also open a conversation about the work of Week of Compassion and how our gifts and partnerships help communities build promising futures.
In an effort to be better stewards of the earth and your financial gifts, Week of Compassion reduced the size of the printed guide this year. But our website has an abundance of additional resources, including pieces you have come to expect and love. Visit the site for the all-ages activity, mission moments, worship materials and more. Learn more about how you are investing in the future and how we are co-workers in God’s service!
