This is the theme of our Oct. 19-20, 2018 Regional Assembly at the Chateau Hotel and Conference Center in Bloomington. It’s based on the new Mission First Priority for the whole church, and the scriptures Matthew 19:14 and 1 Timothy 4:12-14. The blessing of welcome, inclusion and empowerment for ministry—particularly among the young. This is an event planned with all age Disciples in mind.
Our key note speaker for our Friday, Oct. 19 clergy luncheon and evening banquet is the Rev. Terri Hord Owens, our General Minister and President. We will have a series of workshops and mission opportunities on Saturday. Rev. Bill Spangler-Dunning, Regional Minister from the Upper Midwest, will be with us Saturday morning to help interpret the Mission Priority and to do a workshop on “Any Size Church Youth Ministry.” Rev. Olivia Bryan Updegrove from Disciples Home Mission Children’s Ministry, and Rev. Sheila Spencer, Director of Faith Formation Ministry will both lead workshops. CCIW’s own Rev. Jeff Zimmerman and Rev. Tom Yang will work with Rev. Rebecca Anderson to share stories of CCIW New Church Ministries. Rev. Mary Runge will offer a workshop on Hospitality Evangelism, and Mark Anderson from the National Benevolent Association will present one on the work of the NBA in carrying out the Mission First Priority. More information about our Assembly is included in this Christian and on our website. Register today. (And for inspiration watch Andra Day’s Rise Up music video.)
While you are at it—take a look at our offerings for New Day this year. Rev. Melissa Ebken and Rev. Bryan Burris will lead a Geography of Grace Day in February; Rev. Ruth Fletcher will be back April 21; our third year New Day retreat will happen in the Fall; and Rev. Dr. Dick Hamm will be back in November—-these events are open to all CCIW Disciples. Transformation is relational and begins with spiritual deepening. Come join us.
Updates: Our Personnel Committee is currently considering candidates for our new staff positions of Communication, and Children, Youth and Young Adults. Please continue your prayers. Teresa
