As you may remember, in late February an EF-3 tornado caused significant damage in LaSalle County, IL. Week of Compassion is partnering with the United Church of Christ and the Church of the Brethren to support the community as they move into long-term recovery. We have a team of two resource people who are on the ground in the Ottawa/Naplate area, helping community leaders get organized to help those who are not able to repair their houses on their own. Some cases are now ready for volunteers to do repairs (which is wonderful this soon after a disaster!).
The work is mostly siding repair, with some roof repair (for those who are comfortable being on a roof). We would be happy to have single or multiple-day teams as early as next week; housing is available (Week of Compassion will help cover utilities at the host site; volunteers are welcome to make a donation to offset utility costs, if they choose). Any churches or individuals interested in volunteering can contact Caroline Hamilton-Arnold at <firstname.lastname@example.org> for more details, or they can contact Tim Sheaffer, who is handling volunteer logistics on-site: <email@example.com>
