A growing and reviving church in the heart of a mid-sized city, Galesburg First United Methodist Church is seeking a full time Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry to provide leadership, vision, and specific programs in the areas of children’s ministry (pre-K through 5th grade) and youth ministry (grades 6-12).
Responsibilities: Provide leadership, direction and oversight to First UMC’s ministry with children and youth. Planning, coordinating and leading (personally or through supervising volunteers) ministry activities such as Sunday School, weekly youth gatherings, Vacation Bible School, special events, youth mission trips, fun activities, a possible mid-week gathering for children, and other programs as needed within a ministry plan. Recruit, train, and deploy adult volunteers within the children’s and youth ministries, including acquiring background checks and maintaining Safe Sanctuaries policies. Maintain communication between the church and parents. Develop ways for children and youth to connect with the larger First UMC community. Connect with schools and the larger community. Assess the church’s facilities and present a plan for maximizing usage and attractiveness of the building for youth and children’s ministry. Attend meetings and worship services as necessary.
Qualifications: Strong faith in Jesus Christ; the ability to communicate the Christian faith with children and youth in a way that encourages commitment and discipleship; Degree in ministry and/or education; self starter who can also work as a part of a team; familiarity with United Methodist teachings. Ministry experience is strongly preferred.
