The Blue Theology Mission Experience

By September 22, 2016No Comments

Next spring UniPlace is going to be doing a mission trip to Monterey, California to take part of the Blue Theology Mission Experience program.  Blue Theology is a ministry out of Christian Church of Pacific Grove, CA (the church where I was a member and getting ordained) and its a week long program for groups to learn about the importance of environmental stewardship while also connecting it to our spiritual faith.  UniPlace is going to be going from March 19 – March 25th. We will have the opportunity to do beach clean up projects as well as work with marine biologists from the Monterey Aquarium, Stanford University, and also do spiritual reflection and discernment as well.  Rev. Dan Paul (CCDOC) and Rev. Deborah Streeter (UCC) are the ones who oversee the program and have done a great job with it.

While we have this opportunity open all University of Illinois and students, Kris and I also wanted to open it up to area churches in the region to see if anyone wants to join us.  Starting in January we will be reading a book that will help us prepare for the trip as well do some fundraising projects to help pay for it.  The cost is $1,495 but we are hoping to do fundraising projects to get that reduced.

If you know of anyone or churches who might have individuals who are interested, please let them know.  I have attached an information flyer to this email and people can also check out the Blue Theology website bluetheology.com to get a better idea of the program.  It’s also on our website at uniplace.org/bluetheology

The Blue Theology Mission Experiences provides an opportunity to explore a theology that understands Ocean Stewardship is a spiritual concern. It also provides a way to show how the the science of Marine Biology can inform our faith and help us find ways to live out our commitment to God’s great creation of the ocean. The Blue Theology Mission Experience includes: Hands on projects include beach clean ups, sand dune restoration, and scientific data collection while being challenged to explore ways to promote ocean stewardship in your home community.
