Illinois and Wisconsin Students Awarded Entrance in the
Phillips University Legacy Foundation Scholarship and Leadership Development Program

ENID, OK  August 12, 2016 — Phillips University Legacy Foundation is pleased to announce two students in the Illinois and Wisconsin region attending Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) colleges have been awarded entrance into the Phillips University Legacy Foundation Scholarship and Leadership Development Program for the 2016-2017 academic year.  The undergraduate program is based on academic excellence and Christian leadership in the student’s church, vocation and community.

Giesen,-John-5x7---Kelly-ApprovedFrings,-Abigail---Kelly-Approved-for-2016The Legacy Scholar attending Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO is Abigail “Abbi” Frings, a Senior and member of the Disciples of Christ Community Church in Champaign, IL. Abbi’s grand-aunt attended Phillips University. Attending Eureka College in Eureka, IL is John Giesen, a Freshman and member of the St. Clement Church in Lancaster, WI.

The Foundation also provides specialized leadership development for the Legacy Scholars at an annual, all-expense-paid four-day leadership development conference which will be held from November 10-13, 2016 at the Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas. At the conference,  Abbi and John will interact with the other Legacy Scholars from across the nation, participate in the team building exercises, personal challenges, a group volunteer service project and be mentored by top Leadership Development Coaches, Phillips University Alumni, Legacy Scholar Graduates, lay leaders and notable Christian Leaders. There are a total of 26 Legacy Scholars for 2016-2017. Legacy Scholars also perform an annual 40-hour volunteer service project.

The program grants annual awards of up to $5,000 to full-time undergraduate students attending any of the 17 colleges or universities currently or historically affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Since the inception of the program in 2002, 154 students have received over $1.3 million in scholarship assistance.
