The Westar Institute, home of the Jesus Seminar, will be presenting a two-day seminar (April 10-11, 2015) titled, The Other Bible: Early Christianity Beyond the Canon. Leaders are Dr. Stephen J. Patterson, professor of religion and ethical studies at Willamette University in Oregon, and Dr. Ruben Rene Dupertuis, professor of religion, at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Patterson also is the author of several books, and is a world-renowned expert on the Gospel of Thomas.

Join us for all five sessions
Jesus Seminar on the Road (JSOR) is a unique opportunity for you to interact with some of the world’s foremost experts on early Christianity, in a lecture and discussion format intended for lay audiences. The weekend begins with a Friday evening talk, followed by four sessions on Saturday. The JSOR topic focuses on some of the hundreds of texts produced by Christians the first few centuries after Jesus’ death. Leaders will explore what these gospels and letters might tell us about ideas that arose in early Christian communities. We’ll also discuss how these texts might broaden our understandings of Jesus beyond what is in the New Testament “canon” compiled 300 years later.
