Reading through “We Make the Way by Walking” by Brian McClaren, he points to the genealogies of Jesus presented in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. In a simple and profound way, Jesus’ origins are traced through Sarah and Abraham—who are promised to become, through the multitude of their offspring, a blessing to the nations. Jesus’ origins are traced through women like Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary who tie him to the ordinary, humble relationships that color our lives. Jesus’ origins are traced to Adam, as son of God made in the image of God which makes the message for all creation. The birth of Jesus is a story of inter-connections, relationship intrigues, and the mysterious blessings that God has done and is doing for the sake of all creation.
The blessing does not wait for us all to get on board. Thankfully, it doesn’t wait for us to agree. It simply comes as a gift. Good news for all creation.
Teresa,
Your Merry Christmas message helps me recognize the extent of my selfishness as it compares to God’s magnificent generosity. I pray for God to bless me with greater yearning for joy in generosity!
Doris,
You make my day. Thank you
