Camp Walter Scott is a multi-faceted camp facility. CCIW-sponsored youth camps run seven to eight weeks during the summer months. (in addition CCIW holds summer camp sessions at various facilities throughout the region).
Camp Walter Scott is available for youth and adult retreats during weekdays and weekends. Two log cabins, the retreat house and the Southside shower house as well as the dining hall/activity center are winterized. Cabin #1 has 8 bunks and 4 trundles and the Cabin #2 has 16 bunks–both cabins have bathroom facilities with showers. Our newly renovated retreat house sleeps 16-22 persons, in 4 sleeping rooms (bunks) and host apartment with double bed and double hide-a-bed.
Groups with more persons than the amount of bed space can also sleep people in the upper and lower levels of the Dining Hall.
The camp is arranged so that two summer camp programs can operate simultaneously, with the half-mile square property being divided by a 23 acre man-made lake, which provides fishing, boating and swimming as a state-licensed sand beach. Ten summer sleeping shelters, four sleeping twelve people and six sleeping 16 are located in the woods and provide the sleeping quarters for the summer camps. Gorden-Lowe Pavilion on the north side of the lake will seat up to 200 people and serves as an activity center for summer camps operating on the north side, as well as for picnics and one-day church retreats. There are two beautiful lakeside outdoor chapels, one on each side of the lake.
All denominations are welcome to use the facility-throughout the year. Catholics, Baptists, Mennonites, Presbyterians, public and parochial schools, mental health support groups, kids in crisis groups and private family groups use the camp.
Several individuals, families, youth and adult groups come to do volunteer labor on the grounds.
Volunteer workers pay no fee and receive free meals.
As a special service the camp offers to CCIW pastors use of the cabins for personal retreats with no charge for the cabin.
Camp Walter Scott is a wonderful place for spiritual retreat and renewal for groups of all ages. Many groups who use the facility consider the camp to be “holy ground”.
