If you or your congregation is interested in partnering with SLAM, please complete this Interest Form to stay connected.

In the form we ask people to sign up for the regions’ eNews which I can pass on to you to add them. Let me know if you think there’s a better way to capture this info. Since we wanted to get info for anyone wanting to partner or serve in the team, I figured it’d be better to just do a form. I’m getting some cards done with a QRC to the form to pass during General Assembly

The Christian Church in Illinois and Wisconsin is committed to Service, Learning, Advocacy, and Mission (SLAM) embodied through…

“The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, ‘Look, here is the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means Teacher), ‘where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day.” John 1:35-39a

When the disciples of John the Baptist wanted to know more about Jesus’ ministry he said, “Come and see.” (Jn 1:39) SLAM extends that invitation to all. Come and see the ministry we are engaged in together.

“Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he said, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ He said to him, ‘What is written in the law? What do you read there?’ He answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself.’ And he said to him, ‘You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.’ But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbour?’ Luke 10:25-29

When Jesus taught that we should love our neighbor as ourselves, the natural question for all if us is, “Who is my neighbor?” (Lk 10:29). SLAM is committed to building and nurturing relationships as we serve, learn, and advocate together. By doing this, we will certainly discover who are neighbors are.

Seeing Christ:

Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:37-40

As we minister alongside one another through service, learning, advocacy, and mission; we will encounter the presence of Christ in each other and those we serve. By accepting this invitation our relationships will grow, and we will see Christ. SLAM fosters seeing Christ in every person and place. Together we are the body of Christ.
