Vocation and calling topics of discussion at Eureka College Founders’ Day

EUREKA – The assistant director of NetVue, a nationwide network of colleges and universities for Christian vocation in undergraduate education, will be the keynote speaker at the Eureka College Founders’ Day convocation. The ceremony is at 4 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Becker Auditorium of the Cerf Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

Michael Cartwright’s presentation titled “Hearing the Call Where We Are” will explore the challenges and opportunities faced by the founders of Eureka College as faculty, staff and students consider how to respond to issues they face in the 21st century.

Cartwright became an assistant director at NetVue in 2013. NetVue was founded in 2013 and includes 197 colleges and universities, spanning a wide theological spectrum. He’s also an assistant professor of philosophy and religion at the University of Indianapolis. Previously, he served as the director of the Lantz Center for Christian Vocations at the university.

Cartwright has an undergraduate degree in English Literature, a master’s of divinity and a PhD in theology and ethics.

Eureka College was founded by members of the Christian Church and is among 14 colleges and universities affiliated with the church. The college was incorporated on Feb. 6, 1855, by an act of the Illinois Legislature. The founding date coincides with the birth date of the college’s most famous alumnus, Ronald Reagan, who graduated in 1932. In recognition of both the founding date and Reagan’s birth date, the college traditionally serves birthday cake at the reception following the convocation.
