RA Workshop Update

By September 25, 2014No Comments

Dear Regional Assembly Workshop Leader,

Due to the unanticipated decrease in Assembly registrations this year, the decision was made to consolidate the Assembly to one church rather than two on Saturday. There will be no Regional Assembly activities happening at Glen Oak Christian Church; all Saturday activity will be at First Christian Church, Peoria.

With lower registrations and fewer rooms for workshops, it was necessary to reduce the number of workshops offered. We changed the schedule to reflect interest expressed through the registration process. The following advertised workshops will not be offered: Creation Stewardship (Kris Light), Children and Family Ministres (Kate Epperly), Praying for Your Pastor (Karen Fraser Moore). The lineup now stands as follows. If you absolutely cannot lead your workshop at the time now assigned, please contact me immediately:

Morning

Global Ministry Connections: (9:45-10:30) Jean Wallace will present on our Mission Partnership in Guatemala and Karon Alexander (10:45-11:45) the Woman to Woman Journey to Mexico

Congregational Transformation: (9:45-11:45) Chuck Dorsey on a congregational transformation in progress

Websites and Social Media: (9:45-10:45) Jeff Dulyea Parker with help and how-tos

Good Samaritan Inn Ministries: (9:45-10:40) Stacey Brohard on a local food ministry

Legacies Mentoring :(10:45-11:45) Darwin Collins on legacies through wills and estates

Cookies & Conversation & Disciple TV (9:45-11:45) Bonnie and Irami Osei-Frimpong NBA Adult XPlor and a new TV pilot

After Lunch

Global Ministry Connections: (1:15- 2:30) Mark Behle, Global Ministries Partner in Lesotho will share the story of our church in Lesotho

Pro-Reconciliation Anti-Racism: (1:15-2:45) Dave Bell of Yakama Christian Mission will speak to the resolution concerning The Doctrine of Discovery

Connecting with Young Adults: (1:15-2:45) Hannah Fitch and others from Central, Decatur

Finding Silence: (1:15-2:45) Jennie Churchman on finding interior space for prayer

GLAD: (1:15-2:45) Mark Johnston on Open and Affirming Ministries with LGBT Christians

As people arrive and receive name badges at Assembly they will be guided to check their workshop registrations and choose as many additional workshops as they can fit into their schedule on Saturday. (Because of confusion on the website link, most have only registered for 1). Room assignments have been made based upon anticipated workshop size increases and the sign-up sheets will reflect the number we can accommodate.

We will all be graciously adjusting to many changes, and your help is greatly appreciated. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me.

Thank you,
Kris Light
