Sharon Stanley-Rea

Sharon joined Disciples Home Missions as Director of Refugee and Immigration Ministries in January, 2013. She works now to mobilize Disciples congregations around the country to offer hospitality to immigrants, to provide refugee resettlement assistance to refugees, and to engage in advocacy on behalf of refugees and immigrants.

Prior to joining DHM, Sharon served for 19 years as the Founder and Executive Director of Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM), which provides holistic ministries to thousands of refugees annually in California’s Central Valley. Sharon also led refugee resettlement efforts with hundreds of congregations in California and Nevada for 4 years prior, has lived 14 years in a large refugee and immigrant community nicknamed after a refugee camp in Thailand, and has traveled and studied extensively in Southeast Asia.

Sharon has ministered in South Korea and in North Carolina Sharon is an ordained Presbyterian Pastor, with clergy standing also within the Disciples of Christ denomination. She holds a Doctor of Ministry degree with specialty in “Gospel and Culture”, from Columbia Theological Seminary, and earned a Masters of Divinity degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary. She is also a nationally trained community organizer through PICO, has won numerous social justice and community service awards, and is an avid runner.
